紫薇花期极长，从夏至秋持续开放约百天，是中国著名的"百日红"。树皮光滑，枝条柔软，微风吹来花枝摇曳。有人抚摸树干，枝梢随之颤动，故又称"痒痒树"。花朵皱皱的花瓣极具特色，花色从淡粉到深紫多样。

Lagerstroemia indica, commonly known as a crape myrtle, is a species of flowering plant in the genus Lagerstroemia of the family Lythraceae. It is native to East Asia, South Asia and Southeast Asia. It is an often multi-stemmed, deciduous tree with a wide spreading, flat topped, rounded, or even spike shaped open habit. The tree is a popular nesting shrub for songbirds and wrens.
